Nigeria 0 Algeria 1 : Early Goal Condemns Super Eagles To Defeat In First Game Of 2020
Published: October 09, 2020Nigeria's Super Eagles on Friday evening lost 1-0 against African champions Algeria in the first of their two international friendly games in the month of October in Austria, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Desert Foxes defeated the Eagles 2-1 in the semifinals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The opposition wasted little time to get in the front foot as Ramy Bensebaini's left-footed shot from the centre of the box found the high centre of the goal after he was picked out by Andy Delort six minutes in.
Soon after the setback, Alex Iwobi went close for the Super Eagles but his long range effort was well gathered by Alexandre Oukidja before Delort forced Maduka Okoye into a very fine save at the other end.
Sanusi was next to threaten four minutes to be break, when the Porto man made the best of a nice team move but his effort at the near post was kept out.
Rohr threw on Mikel Agu, Moses Simon, Kelechi Iheanacho, Kevin Akpoguma, SamsonTijani and Ahmed Musa as the team sought a foothold back into the game but the Desert Foxes held on to secure their second successive victory over Nigeria.
Nigeria will play their second international friendly in the spate of four days when they tackle Tunisia on October 13.
Today's clash against Algeria was their first game since thrashing Lesotho 4-2 in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in November 2019.
