Nigeria 1 Tunisia 1 : Iheanacho Scores Opener As Super Eagles Are Held To Draw In Austria
Published: October 13, 2020The Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw in their second friendly game of October's international window Tuesday evening in Austria.
The Tunisians had a penalty appeal turned down in the early stages of the game while Samuel Chukwueze came up with the Super Eagles' first attempt at goal with a rasping shot in the fifth minute.
Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho then put the Nigerians ahead in the 21st minute when he turned his markers and finished with aplomb which was his ninth international goal.
Iheanacho however failed to double his strike when he missed a penalty kick afterwards after Ahmed Musa was fouled in the box with Alex Iwobi creating the chance with a deft chip over the Carthage Eagles back line.
The Tunisians equalised through Drager Mohamed in the 44th minute who found the top half of the Nigerians' post from a Rafia Hamza assist who got past a lethargic Kenneth Omeruo.
The Super Eagles kept a defensive high line in the second half which handed the Tunisians more of the chances from counter attacking situations.
Gernot Rohr introduced Chidozie Awaziem, Jamilu Collins, Cyriel Dessers and Chidera Ejuke in place of Kelvin Akpoguma, Zaidu Sanusi, Ahmed Musa and Samuel Chukwueze.
Nigeria goalkeeper Maduka Okoye produced his best moment of the night two minutes from time as he clawed over the bar a tricky lob from Ben Slimane Anis.
