Newly-Capped Super Eagle Dessers Delighted To Train With Villarreal, Everton, Fulham Stars In Austria
Published: October 15, 2020Racing Genk striker Cyriel Dessers has admitted that he was delighted to train with the likes of Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze, Everton star Alex Iwobi and Fulham defender Ola Aina's during Nigeria's training camp in Austria this month.
The former Belgium U21 invitee came off the bench to replace Ahmed Musa in the 72nd minute for his international debut for the three-time African champions.
Though he trained with top stars representing Premier League and La Liga clubs, Dessers, top scorer in the Eredivisie last season, has stressed that he felt comfortable.
"The pep was already a bit off. It was a tough week for everyone, but I still tried to accelerate and bring something," said Dessers to Het Laatste Nieuws.
"I got one small chance, but I couldn't put more than my foot against the ball.
"I did my thing, also in training. By the way, they were of a very high level, really. Training with basic players from Villarreal, Everton, Fulham, ...: great fun.
"Did I not look out of place? You should ask the coach that, but I don't think so. I scored my goals and had a good feeling."
Dessers is hoping to get more minutes for Genk in the Belgian First Division A so as to improve his chances of being called up for next month's Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone.
