2021 AFCON Qualifiers : Leganes Coach Reveals Exact Nature Of Injury Suffered By Omeruo
Published: November 02, 2020Former Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo has joined Nantes winger Moses Simon in the treatment room before the Super Eagles' two crucial 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches with Sierra Leone this month.
Omeruo suffered an injury three minutes into the second half as CD Leganes grinded out a 1-0 win against Mirandes in a Segunda Division match at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque on Sunday afternoon.
The initial prognosis is that the central defender faces a minimum of two weeks on the sidelines - making him a huge doubt for the upcoming games in Benin City and Freetown.
Speaking post-match, Leganes coach José Luis Martà confirmed that the Nigeria international has suffered a hamstring-related injury.
Marti was quoted as saying by Spanish sports daily Diario AS : "Omeruo has noticed a discomfort in the hamstring, in the back. We will see the resonance it may have".
Nigeria's central defence for the AFCON qualifiers is well-stocked so much so that manager Gernot Rohr has not placed any center back on the standby list.
Semi Ajayi, Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Kevin Akpoguma and Chidozie Awaziem have all been named in his latest squad list.
