Belgian Pro League Leading Marksman Handed Nigeria Call-Up To Replace Injured Simon
Published: November 02, 2020Belgian Pro League leading marksman with nine goals, Paul Onuachu has received another late call-up to the Nigeria squad ahead of their upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Sierra Leone, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
This is the second time in recent weeks that the Racing Genk star has been drafted in to replace an unavailable player originally included on the roster.
Last month, Onuachu was summoned at short notice by the Nigeria Football Federation for the international friendlies with Algeria and Tunisia after Victor Osimhen was barred from traveling as the Napoli players were ordered into quarantine following three positive COVID-19
cases.
The former FC Midtjylland man was called up after Nantes winger Moses Simon was ruled out injured, the Nigerian Federation said on Monday.
Simon subbed out in the 25th minute of Nantes' 3-0 loss to PSG on
Saturday night due to an adductor injury.
The 26-year-old Onuachu has been capped seven times by Nigeria.
The Super Eagles, who are first in Group L of the AFCON qualifiers, take on Sierra Leone at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on November 13 and face the same opponents at Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown four days later.
