Arsenal Manager Arteta Calls Up Nigeria-Eligible Striker To First Team Training Pre-Molde
Published: November 04, 2020Arsenal return to Europa League action when they tackle Scandinavian opponents Molde FK at the Emirates Stadium in London on Thursday night, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Nigeria-eligible striker Folarin Balogun earned another chance to train with the first team on Wednesday under the watchful eyes of Arsenal first team manager Mikel Arteta ahead of the visit of the Norwegian champions.
The 19-year-old is one of five teenagers of Nigerian descent included in Arsenal's Europa League squad via the List B, the others being Bukayo Saka, goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, Ryan Alebiosu and Miguel Azeez.
Of the aforementioned players, only Balogun and Saka have played competitively for Arsenal's first team.
Balogun was handed his professional debut in last Thursday's 3-0 win against Dundalk, coming off the bench for the last sixteen minutes.
He is competing with Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Eddie Nketiah for one of the attacking positions and it is believed he's currently fourth choice in the pecking order of strikers, provided that Arteta does not field a weakened side.
Molde have in their ranks two Nigerian strikers in the shape of Ohi Omoijuanfo and Leke James.
