Akpeyi Finally Reports For Nigeria Duty Pre-Sierra Leone, Spotted At Team Hotel Wednesday
On Thursday, Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr will for the first time run the rule over the twenty four players called up for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sierra Leone, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

A headcount during Wednesday evening's workout revealed that 22 players were present at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, with Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi and Abdullahi Shehu the missing players.

The former Warri Wolves star was finally spotted at the Super Eagles' Eterno Hotel on Wednesday evening and he's expected to be involved in some capacity when they hold their final training session later today, before taking to the pitch to face the Leone Stars.

Rohr has a big decision to make on Thursday : whether to reinstate Akpeyi back in the starting lineup despite missing two days of training, or hand the goalkeeping gloves to the inexperienced Sparta Rotterdam youngster Maduka Okoye.

With only 23 players permitted to be named in the matchday squad for the 2021 AFCON qualifiers, it would mean one goalkeeper must be dropped from the team to face Sierra Leone.

Akpeyi wasn't called up for the friendlies against Algeria and Tunisia last month as there were concerns about his fitness.
