Arsenal Hero Kanu, 1994 AFCON Winner Adepoju React To Super Eagles 4-4 Draw Vs Sierra Leone
Published: November 15, 2020Respected former Nigeria internationals Nwankwo Kanu and Mutiu Adepoju have taken to social media to react to the national team's 4-4 draw against Sierra Leone in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Friday evening.
Adepoju was a member of the Super Eagles squad that won the 1994 AFCON and Kanu went the distance in all the matches played by Nigeria in the 2000 edition, including the showpiece vs Cameroon.
The Super Eagles threw away a four-goal lead to draw with the West African opponents in the matchday three fixture at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Writing on Instagram, Arsenal hero Kanu said : "Well done boys not the result we wanted 4-4 but that’s football we learn and move on 🙏. We get ready for the second match and put all right . Wish you all the best".
1994 AFCON winner Adepoju tweeted : "Every game comes with its lessons and this game against Sierra Leone is one of them. A match is not won until the final whistle is blown.
"Fellow Nigerians, I appeal to you that we keep supporting our dear Super Eagles and I strongly believe they will bounce back in the return leg".
Despite the draw, Nigeria continue to top Group L of 2021 AFCON qualifying with seven points from three games ahead of Benin (6), Sierra Leone (2) and Lesotho (1).
