'Nigerian Football Deserves Better' - Sports Minister Threatens To Wield Axe On Rohr After Winless 2020
Published: November 18, 2020Sunday Dare, Nigeria's Minister of Youth and Sports Development, has hinted at sacking Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr in the wake of the national team's disappointing performances in the 2020 calendar year.
Nigeria ended 2020 without winning a single match; drawing against Tunisia and Sierra Leone two times while losing to reigning African champions Algeria.
The three-time African champions threw away a four-goal lead to draw 4-4 with the Leone Stars last Friday and the goalless draw in Freetown yesterday sparked further outcry from the fans.
The Honorable Minister has publicly questioned the suitability of Rohr for the role of Super Eagles coach and has suggested that he could be forced to make a decision in the coming days.
"The performance of the Super Eagles from their last two matches calls to question the suitability and competences of Technical Adviser, Rohr. Nigerian football deserves better.," Sunday Dare posted on Twitter on Wednesday.
"The needful will be done. Apologies to all football lovers."
Rohr has a contract with the Nigeria Football Federation until December 31, 2022 and would be due compensation if he is dismissed without just cause.
