Okoye Keeps Another Clean Sheet For Sparta Rotterdam Nine Days After Horror Show In Benin City
Published: November 22, 2020Maduka Okoye kept a second consecutive clean sheet for Sparta Rotterdam in a 6-0 hammering of ADO Den Haag in a Dutch Eredivisie clash at the Sparta-Stadion Het Kasteel on Sunday afternoon, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Many Super Eagles fans have doubted his ability to make the grade as an international goalkeeper after his shambolic display nine days ago as Nigeria surrendered a four-goal lead to draw 4-4 with Sierra Leone at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Okoye is laying claim to be Sparta Rotterdam's first choice goalkeeper ahead of Benjamin van Leer after his impressive performance in only his third top-flight performance as a professional.
Only three SC Heerenveen players Benjamin Nygren, Jan Paul van Hecke and Henk Veerman have been able to beat the German-born goalkeeper since he made his league debut on November 1.
Sparta Rotterdam registered their biggest win in the Eredivisie since April 5, 1978 thanks to goals from Lennart Thy (2), Sven Mijnans, Abdou Harroui and Mario Engels (2).
In the provisional standings, Sparta Rotterdam have climbed to tenth position with nine points from nine games after back-to-back wins and clean sheets.
