Arteta Provides Fresh Update On Balogun Contract Situation Every Arsenal Fan Wants To Hear
Published: December 10, 2020Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta faced the cameras shortly after his team continued their impressive showing in the UEFA Europa League with a 4-2 win against Dundalk on Thursday evening and one of the questions he was asked concerned the contract situation of teenage Nigeria-eligible striker, Folarin Balogun.
The Hale End Academy product is living up to his wonderkid tag with two goals and an assist to his name after four appearances off the bench for the Gunners.
Balogun's current contract expires next June and his future has been the subject of speculation in recent months.
Arteta has provided a positive update by revealing that the 19-year-old wants to remain at the club for the foreseeable future and the news will be sweet music to the ears of Arsenal fans.
On Balogun's contract, the Spanish football tactician told reporters at the post-match press conference : "Well, we’re having some discussions with the player he knows we want to
retain him at the club.
"We know that the length of his contract at the
moment is an issue, but we’re trying to resolve it in the best possible
way.
"We want him to stay, he said to me he wants to stay at the club, so
hopefully we can reach an agreement and extend his contract"
Balogun joined Arsenal at the age of eight, rising through the ranks before signing his first professional contract in February 2019.
