Chelsea's Anjorin, Arsenal's Balogun, Southampton's Tella Nominated For PL2 Player Of The Month
Published: January 07, 2021Three players of Nigerian descent Folarin Balogun, Faustino Anjorin and Nathan Tella have been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for December 2020.
The three Anglo-Nigerian starlets will compete with Lewis Bate (Chelsea), Harry Chapman (Blackburn Rovers), Brad Lyons (Blackburn Rovers) and Harvey White (Tottenham Hotspur) for the monthly accolade.
Last month, Balogun grabbed the game-winning goal as Arsenal beat Leicester City 2-1 in the Premier League 2, and also got on the scoresheet and provided an assist vs Dundalk in the Europa League.
On December 18, Chelsea attacking midfielder Anjorin was the standout performer in a 6-1 rout of Manchester United U23s with two goals and two assists, 10 days after he made his full debut in a Champions League clash against Krasnodar.
Southampton winger Tella tallied four goals in the first half of the B team's 5-2 hammering of Leicester City on December 12 and was in the side beaten 1-0 by Manchester City in the Premier League.
The shortlist was compiled by the Premier League's football development panel after coaches picked out the best performance by an opposing player in their PL2 matches.
