Talented Attacking Fullback Eligible For Nigeria, England, Germany Signs New Chelsea Deal
Published: February 11, 2021Talented attacking fullback Derrick Abu has confirmed via social media that he has signed a new deal with Premier League side Chelsea.
The 2003-born defender has inked his first professional contract, seven years after his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Abu was spotted by a Chelsea scout when he was playing for local club Coezer FC at a tournament in Spain.
Born in Regensburg, Germany, he is eligible to represent the national teams of his country of birth, Nigeria as well as England.
The skillful right-back wanted to play for the Golden Eaglets at the
2019 U17 World Cup but failed to establish contact with the Nigeria
Football Federation and coach Manu Garba.
He later made two appearances for England U17s in friendly matches around a year ago.
"The Journey Continues! Proud to have signed my first Professional contract," Abu stated on Instagram.
This season, Abu has been included in Chelsea's matchday squad for U18 Premier League matches on five occasions, tasting action off the bench in four games.
He models his game after former Barcelona star Dani Alves and Real Madrid's
Marcelo, and also watches Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold
because of his crossing abilities.
