Former Teammate Confirms Lecce Are Interested In Signing Real Madrid Rising Star Akinlabi
Published: February 15, 2021Marvin Akinlabi's former teammate at Real Madrid Castilla, Pablo Rodriguez has confirmed that Italian Serie B club Lecce are interested in a move for the Spanish-born midfielder of Nigerian descent.
Akinlabi is on the cusp of a first team breakthrough at Real Madrid with manager Zinedine Zidane handing him game time in three La Liga matches this season, most recently against Getafe.
The Spanish-Nigerian and Rodriguez were key members of the Real Madrid squad that won last season's UEFA Youth League and have remained in contact even after the center forward moved to Lecce last summer.
"I often talk with Marvin (Castilla attacking midfielder), but I didn't know that Lecce had thought of him too," Rodriguez said to Gazzetta dello Sport via Tuttomercatoweb.
Akinlabi has shown his ability to adapt to different positions, impressing as a right wing-back in his last game for the first team on February 9.
Lecce director of football Pantaleo Corvino is unlikely to convince the 20-year-old to move to The Yellow and Reds in the summer if he is promoted to the first team of Real Madrid on a permanent basis.
Akinlabi has been on the books of the Spanish champions since 2016.
