Snapped : 'New Okocha' Trains With Manchester United First Team Ahead Of Trip To Turin
Published: February 16, 2021Manchester United may have dropped a hint that Newcastle-born striker of Nigerian descent Shola Shoretire is in contention to make his first team debut when they face Real Sociedad in a Europa League round of 32 clash at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on Thursday evening.
Training pictures published by United's official website on Tuesday confirm that the Anglo-Nigerian took part in today's training session at Aon Training Complex.
As previously reported, the Red Devils have added Shoretire to their Europa League squad via the List B, meaning he is available for selection if manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs him.
His playing style has been compared to Nigeria legend Jay-Jay Okocha, who graced Premier League pitches with Bolton Wanderers in the early 2000s.
"Shoretire signed a new contract with the Reds last week and the competition could be the perfect setting for the 17-year-old to gain experience of first-team football, with seven Reds having made their debuts in last season's Europa League," United wrote on the 17-year-old.
With UEFA permitting up to twelve substitutes to be named in the matchday squad, the chances of Shoretire being involved in some capacity against the Spanish side are high.
The versatile striker has shown this season why there's so much buzz around him, contributing to nine goals (6 goals, 3 assists) in 14 Premier League 2 matches.
