Solskjaer hints at Shoretire setting new Manchester United record tonight
Published: February 25, 2021Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted at Shola Shoretire setting a new Manchester United record by revealing that there's a possibility of the Anglo-Nigerian winger getting playing time tonight.
The 17-year-old would be the youngest player to feature for Manchester
United in European competition if he is involved against Real Sociedad, overtaking the
great Norman Whiteside.
Shoretire already has two club records to his name; being the youngest player to debut in the UEFA Youth League and sporting the highest squad number (74) ever won by a Manchester United player in a competitive men's first-team fixture.
When asked if there's an opportunity for Amad and Shola to be involved vs Real Sociedad, Solskjaer told United's official website : "They’re in the squad so, of course, there’s a possibility of them being on the pitch. It depends on the game.
"Of course, we’ve decided the starting XI but I’m not going to tell you that! [Smiles] But the likelihood is, hopefully, you’ll probably see one or two of them."
Shoretire made his professional debut when he came off the bench to replace another academy product Marcus Rashford in the closing minutes of the 3-1 win against his former club Newcastle United four days ago.
