Two Nigeria-Eligible players make youth team debuts for Chelsea in loss to Brighton & Hove
Published: March 03, 2021Former Nigeria U17 invitee Prince Adegoke finally made his youth team debut as Chelsea were beaten 3-2 by Brighton & Hove in an U18 Premier League match that took place at Cobham Training Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Adegoke was a non-playing substitute in six U18 matches in the league and cup before the visit of the Seagulls.
The 2003-born goalkeeper was unavailable for selection for the first part of the season because he was recovering after undergoing knee surgery last September.
Eight changes were made by Chelsea U18 coach from the weekend win vs Norwich and one of them also saw Nigeria-eligible wing-back Richard Olise, the younger brother of Reading playmaker Michael Olise, make his competitive debut for the age group.
Charlie Wiggett put the young Blues in front with a powerful header in the second minute but the goal was cancelled out by Markus Ifill midway through the first half.
Brodi Hughes just before the hour mark headed into an unguarded net for 2-1, Ifill equalised again for Brighton & Hove on 77 minutes and the visitors edged the contest courtesy of Emmerson's strike five minutes from time.
A third player of Nigerian descent in the shape of Derrick Abu was on parade for Chelsea and lasted 81 minutes on the pitch.
