Ex-Arsenal fullback noticed what Super Eagles star Iwobi did before Chelsea's opening goal
Published: March 08, 2021Chelsea cemented their fourth position in the Premier League table with a 2-0 win against Everton at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening.
Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has become the first manager in Premier League history to see his side keep a clean sheet in each of his first five home games in charge in the competition, according to OPTA.
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi retained his place in the Toffees starting lineup and was in action for 56 minutes before making way for Tom Davies in a tactical substitution by manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Chelsea had the advantage at half-time, getting on the scoresheet just after thirty minutes courtesy of a Kai Havertz shot, which went in via a big deflection off Ben Godfrey, before Jorginho converted a spot kick to seal the win for the Blues from London in the second half.
Former Arsenal and England defender Lee Dixon explained why Iwobi was partly to blame for the first goal conceded by Everton.
The Super Eagles playmaker was worried about Callum Hudson-Odoi coming so he left Alonso who was able to find space on the left and the Spaniard crossed the ball to Havertz.
"It's the first time Alonso has managed to get away from Iwobi on the left," Dixon said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
"On this occasion, Iwobi just let him go. It was Iwobi just losing concentration - and Alonso takes full advantage".
Iwobi has recorded 29 appearances in all competitions for Everton so far this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
