Anjorin watches on from the bench as Chelsea knock Atletico Madrid out of Champions League
Published: March 18, 2021Faustino Anjorin watched proceedings from the bench as Chelsea booked their place in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League by beating La Liga table-toppers Atletico Madrid 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
With four first team players namely Jorginho, Mason Mount, Thiago Silva and Tammy Abraham not available foe selection, manager Thomas Tuchel selected only nine substitutes, including Anjorin, in the matchday squad.
The England youth international of Nigerian descent made his starting debut for Chelsea in a Champions League clash against Krasnodar on December 8 - his only squad involvement in the competition before the visit of Los Rojiblancos.
However, he was not utilised off the bench with Tuchel opting to introduce Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Emerson and Ben Chilwell in the closing minutes.
Chelsea progressed to the last eight thanks to goals from Hakim Ziyech and Emerson who scored with his first touch of the ball after coming on as a substitute in the third minute of stoppage time.
The Morocco international scored a brilliant counter attacking goal after combining with two other summer signings Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
Anjorin will be hoping to taste action when Chelsea tackle Sheffield United in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup on Sunday, March 21.
