Guardiola confirms Nigeria-eligible attacking midfielder is training with Man City first team
Published: April 03, 2021Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that German-Anglo-Nigerian attacking midfielder Felix Nmecha is training with the first team.
The England youth international, whose brother Lukas Nmecha is cap-tied to Germany, was spotted training with the first team of the Citizens in their final workout on Friday before their trip to the King Power Stadium.
Aged 20, the younger Nmecha made his FA Cup and Champions League debuts for Man City this season and was handed his professional debut against Burton Albion in the League Cup in January 2019.
It has been 83 days since Nmecha was named in a matchday squad for the first team - against Birmingham City in the FA Cup - with the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden ahead of him in Guardiola's pecking order of midfielders.
The Spanish coach was quoted as saying by Manchester City's official website : " Liam, Felix [Nmecha], Cole Palmer, [James] McAtee - many players are training with us.
"Liam is doing incredibly well.
"We are in touch every week once or twice with Enzo Maresca to see how they are developing. Enzo is doing an incredible job in the second team".
