Simy bags brace, Osimhen also on target as Napoli win seven-goal thriller vs Crotone
Published: April 03, 2021Nigeria international strikers Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo and Victor Osimhen were both on target as Napoli defeated Crotone 4-3 in an Italian Serie A clash staged at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from Lorenzo Insigne and Osimhen gave Napoli a two-goal cushion inside 22 minutes, Simy pulled a goal back in the 25th minute, before Dries Merten's strike in the 34th minute meant The Blues led 3-1 heading into the interval.
Simy scored again in the 48th minute and Junior Messias restored parity with a goal just before the hour mark, before Giovanni Di Lorenzo scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 72nd minute.
Simy has been in astonishing form in the Italian top-flight this season and has found the net in each of his last five matches in the division, taking his tally to fifteen goals from 29 matches.
On the other hand, Osimhen has struggled in his first season in Italy, largely due to injuries, and his 22nd minute strike against Crotone today was his fourth goal from 20 appearances in all competitions.
In the provisional standings, Napoli are sitting fourth with 56 points while bottom team Crotone are on 15 points.
