'Chelsea's Nigerian fans love me' - Leicester's man of the moment Iheanacho ahead of FA Cup final
Published: April 19, 2021Leicester City will meet Chelsea in the final of the Emirates FA Cup on May 15 after beating Southampton 1-0 at Wembley on Sunday evening.
Red-hot striker Kelechi Iheanacho scored the all-important goal for the Foxes, putting away the rebound after his first shot was blocked following brilliant work from Jamie Vardy down the left at minute 55.
The Nigeria international managed to score five goals in his first 24 games of the season but is now in the form of his life, with ten goals from seven appearances in all competitions.
Chelsea have a huge fanbase in Nigeria due to the club's success under the ownership of Roman Abramovich and the exploits of John Obi Mikel, and other former Super Eagles stars Celestine Babayaro and Victor Moses.
Iheanacho has claimed that the Blues fans will be torn between supporting Chelsea and Leicester City in the showpiece next month as he is popular in his homeland.
"Probably half of Nigeria is watching the game today! They will be really happy and pleased that we’ve got to the final," Iheanacho said to LCFC TV post-match.
"Chelsea have a lot of fans in Nigeria, and they love me as a player, so it'll be half and half supporting us in Nigeria in the final! Hopefully, we win in the final!"
Iheanacho is Leicester City's top scorer in all competitions with 15 goals, including four in the FA Cup.
