Concern over fitness of Shoretire as Man Utd starlet misses 5th game in a row for club & country
Published: November 20, 2021There is genuine concern over the fitness of Shola Shoretire after the Nigeria-eligible winger was not included in Manchester United U23s squad for their Premier League 2 meeting with Derby County on Friday night.
United U23s were also without their current Young Player of the Year in their last game before the international break, a 3-2 win against Leeds United.
Of the eight players of Nigerian descent named in the England youth teams for international matches in November, Shoretire was the only one that didn't taste action.
The 17-year-old was not in England U19 squad for matches against Andorra, Switzerland and Sweden, meaning he has now missed five games in a row for club and country.
Three months into the season, Shoretire has directly participated in eight goals (5 goals, 3 assists) in fifteen appearances across all competitions for Manchester United youth teams.
Since signing his first professional contract with United in February he has made three appearances for the first team, the last of which came against Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final day of last season.
Without the influential Shoretire, Manchester United U23s earned a share of the spoils against Derby thanks to Charlie McNeil's 70th minute equaliser.
