PL 2: Anglo-Nigerian starlet marks return to Man Utd squad by scoring and assisting another
Published: December 05, 2021A superb performance from Shola Shoretire powered Manchester United to a 4-0 win in their Premier League 2 clash against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.
The Anglo-Nigerian attacking midfielder marked his return to the Manchester United squad by scoring a goal and assisting another.
The England U19 international had missed three consecutive matches in Premier League 2, one in the UEFA Youth League and was not on Young Lions duty last month, before the trip to Leyland.
Alejandro Garnacho headed home a cross to make it 1-0 after six minutes and Shoretire doubled the advantage just past the half-hour mark.
Shoretire rifled the ball into the roof of the net after he was teed up by Charlie Salvage, taking his goal involvement to ten (6 goals, 4 assists) for United's youth teams in 2021-2022.
In the 77th minute, Garnacho made it 3-0 with his second of the game after making the most of a pass from Shoretire, and the visitors scored a fourth through Charlie McNeill in stoppage time.
With four minutes to go, Shoretire made way for Netherlands youth international of Nigerian descent Dillon Hoogewerf.
Following the win, United are seventh in the table with 21 points, seven less than table-toppers West Ham United who have a game in hand.
