Nigeria-eligible midfielder added to Man Utd Champions League squad pre-Young Boys
Published: December 08, 2021Shola Shoretire is seemingly in contention to make his Champions League debut when Manchester United tackle Swiss opponents Young Boys at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
The Anglo-Nigerian attacking midfielder has been added to United's Champions League roster via the List B ahead of the meeting against the Super League champions.
UEFA states that a player may be registered on List B if he is born on, or after, 1 January 2000 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday (players aged 16 may be submitted if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years).
The 17-year-old Shoretire meets the criteria as he has played non-stop at Manchester United since the age of nine following his move from city rivals Manchester City.
An England U19 international, he was on the periphery of United's first team in the second half of last season, totaling three appearances, but has not been included in any matchday squad in 2021-2022.
Shoretire became the youngest player in history to feature for
Manchester United in European competition when he came off the bench
against Real Sociedad on February 25, 2021, aged 17 years and 23 days.
In the current season, he has directly participated in ten goals in sixteen matches for Manchester United's youth teams.
