Balogun helps Boro pull off FA Cup upset with win over Manchester United
Published: February 05, 2022Forward Folarin Balogun played for little over an hour on Friday night in Middlesbrough's victory against Manchester United in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup.
The game finished 1-1 in regulation time to keep the Red Devils in the hunt for a trophy in a difficult season but after 120 minutes of football which included 30 minutes of extra time, penalties were required and Middlesbrough defeated Ralf Rangnick's side 8-7 after the spot kicks.
The fourth round of the FA Cup tie was payed at Old Trafford with Jadon Sancho putting United ahead in the 25th minute albeit Matt Crooks restored parity for the away side twenty minutes into the second half.
The American-born striker, who is eligible to represent Nigeria, his parents home country or England, has played three Championship league games for his temporary employers.
Balogun did not have an overly eventful game but was presented with a chance to put Boro ahead in the 34th minute however his shot was way off target.
He is on a loan at Boro but is expected to be back at the Emirates next season with the futures of Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette up in the air.
