Nigerian Federation reveal Fifa approved Lookman's change of association request within 24 hours
Published: February 14, 2022The Nigeria Football Federation have revealed that the governing body of football, Fifa approved Ademola Lookman's change of association request from England to Nigeria within 24 hours.
A dual citizen of England, where he was born, and Nigeria, the country his parents originally hail from, Lookman receiving a one-time change of association approval from Fifa has cleared the way for the winger to make his senior debut in the coming weeks.
A 2017 U20 World Cup winner with the Young Lions, Lookman has also played competitive matches for England at U19 and U21 levels.
The Leicester City winger represented his country of birth at the 2016 European U19 Championship and U21 Euro qualifiers.
Lookman was part of the England U20 squad that thrashed the Golden Eaglets 8-1 in the Suwon Continental Cup in November 2016.
NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi has praised Fifa for the record-time approval granted the fresh application by the Federation with regards to Lookman's one-time switch.
"We sent in the application on Wednesday night after putting all the necessary documentation together. We are happy to receive the approval today," Sanusi said on Thursday, according to a press release by the Nigerian Federation.
Lookman was in the plans of former Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr and it remains to be seen if he is called up by interim boss Augustine Eguavoen for next month's 2022 World Cup playoff matches with regional rivals Ghana.
