18yo LB Adaramola receives first senior call-up for a Premier League game against Chelsea
Published: February 20, 2022Young Irish-Nigerian left-back Tayo Adaranola received his first senior call-up for a Premier League game on Saturday as an impressive Crystal Palace side narrowly lost 1-0 to world champions Chelsea at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira monitored the 18-year-old defender at close quarters in the days leading up to the visit of Chelsea before opting to name him in the matchday 20.
Adaramola was one of three Nigeria-eligible youngsters in Palace's matchday squad, the others being Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise.
While Olise went the full ninety against Chelsea and Eze was on the pitch for five minutes, Adaramola watched proceedings from the bench for the entirety of the game.
Adaramola made his first team debut for the Eagles in a 2-0 win over Hartlepool United in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup on February 5, coming off the bench to replace Joel Ward in the 86th minute.
His two call-ups are the first steps on his journey to break into the Crystal Palace team on a permanent basis in the not too distance future.
He has been involved in a total of five goals for Palace's youth teams so far this season, two in the Premier League 2 and three in the U18 Premier League.
