FAYC: Man Utd interim manager and Monaco chief watch Oyedele in win against Leicester
Published: February 25, 2022Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick and Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell were both in attendance at Old Trafford on Thursday night as the Red Devils U18 side earned a 2-1 win over Leicester City to make it through to the semifinals of the FA Youth Cup.
Shola Shoretire, who is age-eligible for the FA Youth Cup as he just clocked eighteen years this month, was also at the stadium to cheer on his former teammates.
It was no surprise to see Anglo-Nigerian midfielder Maxi Oyedele in United's matchday squad having played a part in the wins against Scunthorpe, Reading and Everton in the previous rounds of the competition.
Former Chelsea goalkeeper Kelechi Chibueze traveled with the Leicester City squad to Manchester but remained rooted to the bench for the entire duration of the game.
The Foxes looked the more dangerous side in the opening 25 minutes and deservedly took the lead through Popov but the home team grew into the game as the half wore on and were rewarded with an equaliser when Alejandro Garnacho's free-kick beat the goalkeeper.
Oyedele hopped off the bench for his fourth FA Youth Cup appearance when he replaced Hansen-Aaroen in the 66th minute.
A move which started in United's box ended with a brilliant ball from Mainoo to Garnacho who flicked it into his path with his first touch and drilled it in for the match-winning strike in the 89th minute.
