Published: June 24, 2022Nigeria's Golden Eaglets on Friday evening defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 to win the 2022 West Africa Football Union Zone B U-17 Championship in Cape Coast reports allnigeriasoccer.com.
The Golden Eaglets went ahead in the 22nd minute through Abubakar Abdullahi who headed home from an Emmanuel Michael's pinpoint cross.
The Burkinabes restored parity when they capitalized on a defensive mix-up to make it 1-1 four minutes before the break.
The Nigerians reclaimed their lead barely two minutes into the second half with Abubakar also netting when he pounced on a loose ball from Emmanuel Michael's free kick which was fumbled by the goalkeeper.
Abdullahi missed a gilt-edged chance to grab his hat-trick nine minutes into the second half.
The Burkina Faso forwards piled on the pressure but the Eaglets saw off their threats to head to the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Algeria next year as West Africa Zone B best cadet team.
