Nigerian striker signs fresh Reading deal despite interest from Portuguese, Dutch clubs
Published: July 02, 2022Femi Azeez, the older brother to Arsenal midfielder Miguel, has signed a fresh contract with Championship outfit Reading and this is official.
The striker's contract with the Royals expired on June 30, 2022 and he was offered a new deal to extend his stay at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
The Daily Mail reported last week that Portuguese setup FC Famalicao and Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles, and Football League clubs were interested in signing Azeez.
In spite of all these interest in his signature, the Nigerian has committed his future to Reading until June 30, 2024.
Head of Football Operations, Mark Bowen, said to Reading''s official website: "Femi is a young, hungry, talented player with the right attitude and an obvious desire to develop and earn regular first team football this season.
"He is exactly the type of player we want at this club and I’m delighted he has committed the next two years of his career to this club."
Azeez's 2021-2022 season was marred by injuries, limiting his appearances to fourteen games in all competitions in which he scored two goals in the second tier.
The 21-year-old arrived at Reading in September 2020 and made his senior debut off the bench against Sheffield Wednesday in March 2021.
