Anglo-Nigerian midfielder rejects new Aston Villa contract amid Arsenal, Barcelona links
Published: July 20, 2022The contract saga involving England U19 sensation of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka and Aston Villa has not yet ended as the central midfielder sees his future elsewhere having rejected a new deal to extend his stay at Villa Park.
According to The Telegraph via Daily Mirror, the likelihood of the Anglo-Nigerian midfielder leaving Aston Villa this summer has increased after he officially rejected a contract renewal from Steven Gerrard's side.
Several Premier League clubs including Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Chukwuemeka with a view to a swoop.
La Liga side Barcelona are also showing interest in the Aston Villa academy product who is valued at 20 million pounds.
Aston Villa have been trying to tie him down to a new deal but have been unsuccessful with the current agreement between club and player running out next June, meaning he can sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in the January transfer window.
Chukwuemeka's stock has skyrocketed after his excellent performances at the 2022 European U19 Championship, where he registered three goals and two assists to help the Young Lions win the tournament.
The 18-year-old has made sixteen first team appearances for Aston Villa, three of which he started.
