Arsenal 4 Chelsea 0 : Super Eagles-eligible duo not given minutes by Arteta third game running
Published: July 24, 2022Arsenal rounded off their pre-season tour to the United States with a convincing 4-0 win over Premier League rivals Chelsea in a London derby staged at Camping World Stadium (Orlando, Florida) on Sunday morning.
Regarding the team news, Super Eagles-eligible duo Folarin Balogun and Arthur Okonkwo were not given minutes by manager Mikel Arteta for the third game running amid speculation linking both with temporary departures from the Emirates Stadium before the close of the summer transfer window.
The Hale End Academy graduates did not see game time against Everton and Orlando City.
England youth international of Nigerian descent Faustino Anjorin has returned to England to complete his move to Huddersfield Town, so was obviously not involved for Chelsea.
Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring after fourteen minutes with a dink over the goalkeeper - his fourth pre-season goal for the Gunners after his move from Manchester City.
A well-constructed goal finished off by Martin Odegaard in the 36th minute doubled the Gunners advantage.
Bukayo Saka added a third in the 66th minute when he tapped in from close range after Granit Xhaka's shot was parried by the Chelsea goalie Mendy.
Sambi Lokonga took his goal involvement to five in pre-season by heading home in stoppage time to make it 4-0.
Balogun and Okonkwo have flown back with the Arsenal squad to the United Kingdom, where they will continue pre-season preparations ahead of their next friendly with Sevilla.
