Should Norwegian-Nigerian striker return to Chelsea after loan or push for permanent move?

Chelsea's Norwegian-Nigerian striker Bryan Fiabema has started generally well at his new club Rosenborg.

Fiabema will be spending the whole of the 2022 Norwegian season on loan at Rosenborg, with an option to buy him outright from Chelsea included in the deal.

The 19-year-old is a product of the Tromsø academy and after a successful trial, he joined Chelsea in February 2020 after just making one senior appearance for Tromsø.

So far, he is yet to open his goalscoring account for Rosenborg in the Eliteserien but he has already notched one assist in nine appearances, and netted his first senior goal in a Cup clash versus Levanger FK in June.

Chelsea are already rebuilding their first-team squad and it is safe to say that Fiabema may not be in the current plans.

Youngsters need clarity and opportunities which begs the question, should the Nigeria-descent striker return to Stamford Bridge after his loan expires or should he push for a permanent move to Rosenborg where he has a buy option in his contract?

With his loan deal expiring in November and the January transfer window presenting an opportunity for evaluation, allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at the situation to arrive at a verdict on which decision Fiabema should take.

Fiabema already possesses an array of outrageous abilities that are required in a modern centre-forward. He is blessed with lightning pace, strength and a good physique.

He is also naturally gifted on the ball and has incredible movement. He is comfortable coming deep to combine with midfielders in central areas and also playing on the shoulders of the last man.

Much will depend on what route Chelsea would look to take with the first-team squad. Will more focus be put on youth? Or will it be only established players?

With the arrival of Raheem Sterling and the reports linking the club to several attacking players, it is difficult to see a clear path for Fiabema into the first team.

Being only 19 years old, the Norwegian-Nigerian still has two or three years to develop before angling for more playing time.

It is a huge task making the leap from youth football to senior football and so many things need to be put in place.

The rumours surrounding the departure of Armando Broja are also not encouraging and if in two or three years there is still no pathway, Fiabema may need to look elsewhere.

But currently, he needs to continue his development at the club when he comes back from Rosenborg.
