Cornet vs Chukwueze : Who would be a better fit for West Ham?
Published: August 02, 2022The transfer window is gradually coming to an end with the new Premier League season set to kick off on Friday 5th of August 2022.
As expected, clubs are scrambling to get their deals over the line and West Ham is one of the clubs linked with making some late decisive moves.
David Moyes has been reported to be interested in adding a versatile winger who can play on both sides to his squad to give more versatility and unpredictability to his attacking machine.
With the recent acquisition of Gianluca Scamacca, this promises to be a formidable attack.
The player in question is Burnley's Maxwel Cornet. The Ivorian winger is said to be interested in sealing a transfer due to his club's relegation last season.
However, allnigeriasoccer.com makes a comparison between Cornet and Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze to determine who would be a good fit for the Hammers.
Moyes mainly utilises a 4-2-3-1 formation and mainly deploys Michail Antonio as a lone striker. Antonio is a force to be reckoned with, but he's plagued by injury.
The Jamaican is a physical specimen and a monster when it comes to duels with the likes of Benrahma, Fornals, Lanzini and Bowen running into space off him to get the ball in danger zones.
It is likely that Scamacca would be utilised in a role similar to Antonio's, however, the runners available for moving quickly into space are more of combiners rather than burners except Bowen, i.e they prefer to run with the ball at their feet rather than without.
Allnigeriasoccer's choice for West-Ham between Chukwueze and Cornet relies on how Moyes wishes to utilise Antonio and Scamacca.
If they are to be used in the traditional way as before, Chukwueze would be a better option as he is far better when bursting into space and would continue the tactic if Bowen is out.
However, if Antonio and Scamacca are to play on the shoulders of the last man, then Cornet would be much better as he is an excellent option at combining and creating from the flanks.
