Flying Eagles-eligible wingback Abu was in the Chelsea squad to the MLS NEXT Pro Invitational in the United States, where he featured in matches against Real Monarchs and Toronto 11.
He was not called up for Chelsea's first two matches of the new Premier League 2 season, missing the opener versus Wolves and Monday's 3-0 loss to Fulham.
Last season, the German-born Anglo-Nigerian defender represented Chelsea in the U18 Premier League, U18 Premier League Cup and FA Youth Cup.
Abu signed his first professional contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit in February 2021.
