'Beat smaller teams, avoid complete dependence on Kane' - Ikpeba sends message to Tottenham

Former Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba believes English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur struggle to win games against supposedly weaker opponents which they must work towards eradicating.

The 1997 African Footballer of the Year winner bared his mind on SuperSport's Monday Night Football as monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com.

"Yes I know they played well against (Man) City. It's the small teams sometimes that they do labour to beat. And they did suffer, losing to lower oppositions and that's why they suffered towards the end of the season," Ikpeba stated as the Monday Night Football crew reviewed the weekend's games.

"If they can have this mentality to tear apart these smaller teams, I think they have what it takes win the English Premier League.

"When they go to play the Champions League, when they play better opposition. So far, they are picking points but I don't think they are playing brilliant football. I don't see much of Son Heung-min this season even Richarlison.

The former AS Monaco and Borussia Dortmund striker added that the team have solely relied on the goals of England captain Harry Kane.

"You cannot just put faith in one striker, Kane because he's had so much injuries. But so far, seven points out of nine is not bad.

"You know with Spurs, with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min they quality they have upfront, in dead ball situations, they used it to punish this Wolves side.

Ikpeba, whom many Nigerian football followers hoped would play in the English top flight during his playing days, also stressed that Wolves deserved at least a point from the game on Saturday.

"I think Wolves deserved more from this game. Hugo Lloris made some saves in this game. That's Spurs for you, if you don't take your chances, they will punish you. That's what they did against Wolves."

Ikpeba then finished with a thumbs up to the goalscoring streak of Harry Kane.

"Wolves manager will be sad that they did not get any point from this game. Kane's goal, I'm not surprised, 250 in all competitions and 1,000th for Spurs in the EPL. What a goal from the big man," Ikpeba concluded.
