Leicester City boss explains why Ndidi did not start against Chelsea
Published: August 27, 2022Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has offered explanations for his decision to keep Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi on the substitute bench in Saturday's Premier League defeat to Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge.
Rodgers who is under increasing pressure after three league defeats and one draw spoke to the media after the latest poor result.
The former Liverpool manager preferred Boubakary Soumare to Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.
The Foxes lost 2-1 to their hosts with two goals by Raheem Sterling while Harvey Barnes reduced the arrears for Leicester.
Rodgers on why Ndidi didn't start: “We wanted to come through the pitch quicker. Soumare has been great in training and he’s committed now to staying at the club, which is great. He allows us to play through the thirds quickly and that was the reason for him coming in instead.”
