Ex-Nigeria star hails Arsenal's attacking resilience, Gabriel for win vs 'tactical' Fulham
Published: August 29, 2022Former African Footballer of the Year and retired Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba on Monday evening hailed the resilience of Arsenal in their 2-1 home win against Fulham at the Emirates stadium on Saturday.
The Gunners have gone four games unbeaten in the Premier League this season and are atop the table with maximum 12 points.
Ikpeba, who played under legendary Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger whilst at Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in his playing days, spoke on SuperSport's magazine programme, Monday Night Football, monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com.
"When (Eddie) Nketiah came off the bench there was a lot of running upfront by this Arsenal side," the 'Prince of Monaco' noted.
"And the fans too. You can see the fans still pushing this young team to get an equaliser. The fans will play will play a big role in pushing this team at the Emirates to maybe end the season in the top four in the Premier League," Ikpeba asserted.
Brazilian defender Gabriel went from zero to hero in the game as he scored the winning goal after initially losing the ball that led to Fulham's goal.
Ikpeba had good words to say about the centre-back.
"Gabriel had to make up for the error earlier in the game (by scoring Arsenal's second goal). I'm happy for him.
"They (Arsenal) could have dropped points against Fulham. Fulham were tactically prepared against this Arsenal side. They were confident in their play.
"Even though Arsenal had more possession of the ball, Mitrovic was everywhere dangerous when he had the bank in the offensive part," Ikpeba concluded.
Arsenal will play their fifth game of the season on Wednesday against Aston Villa.
