Partey and Elneny injuries : Arteta promotes Azeez to first team training pre-Aston Villa
Published: August 30, 2022Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta promoted Anglo-Nigerian central midfielder Miguel Azeez to first team training ahead of their Premier League clash against Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Azeez was left out of the U21 squad for Tuesday's Papa John's Trophy match against Cambridge United.
Arsenal were without Thomas Partey last weekend for their 2-1 win over Fulham, with Mo Elneny replacing the Ghana star in the starting lineup.
The Egyptian midfielder went on to suffer a significant injury against the Cottagers, and is expected to spend a long time recuperating.
Partey is also still nursing a muscle injury and may be unavailable for the game week five meeting with Steven Gerrard's team.
🚨 Mohamed Elneny suffered significant injury vs Fulham. Arsenal awaiting full extent but 30yo expected to miss considerable spell. Partey also nursing (relatively minor) muscle issue so #AFC may look to recruit in midfield. With @gunnerblog @TheAthleticUK https://t.co/8b567oDygj

The potential unavailability of Elneny and Partey opened the door for Azeez to be called up to train with the first team on Tuesday at London Colney.
The Nigeria-eligible youngster is now in contention to make the matchday squad for the game against Villa.
Azeez, who is eligible to play for the Super Eagles through his Nigerian father, trained with Arsenal's senior team a lot of times during the last campaign.
Arsenal will be looking to continue their winning streak when they take on Aston Villa, having earned maximum twelve points from four matches played.
