Iwobi shines in Everton's entertaining goalless draw against Liverpool
Published: September 03, 2022Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi was in action for 90 minutes and had a decent game in Everton's goalless draw against Liverpool in Saturday's Merseyside derby at the Goodison Park on Saturday reports All Nigeria Soccer.
Iwobi's range of passes and awareness in the midfield helped in no small measure to stifle the threats of Liverpool who were favorites to claim all three points.
Darwin Nunez's 19th minute header from a delightful Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross went narrowly wide but Everton came close to opening the goal account four minutes later.
Davis struck the ball beautifully with the outside of his eight foot which came off the frame of the post.
The duo of Nunez and Luis Diaz also struck the post for Liverpool with powerful shots before the half time break but the double efforts came to nought.
Iwobi won the ball in midfield and let fly a 56th minute shot that went wide.
Former Liverpool defender and Everton's new signing Conor Coady thought he had scored but his 69th minute goal was ruled out for offside by the VAR.
Five minutes into stoppage time, Liverpool came close to a winner as Mohamed Salah's low shot came off the fingertips of Pickford and onto the crossbar.
