Ten Hag blocked Nigeria-eligible winger from leaving Manchester United last week
Published: September 04, 2022Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag reportedly blocked England underage international of Nigerian descent Shola Shoretire from leaving the Red Devils on a temporary basis in the days leading up to the close of the English transfer window.
Manchester Evening News reporter Richard Fay says Manchester United scrapped Shoretire's departure after the intervention of Ten Hag.
The Anglo-Nigerian winger received interest from a number of number of unnamed Championship clubs in England but earlier plans to ship him off on loan were shelved in the final days of the summer transfer window.
He will continue to feature for United's development squad and is in contention to play in the Europa League before a fresh decision is made on his future in the January transfer window.
Shoretire was omitted from Manchester United's 2022 Tour squad because a loan move had been on the cards and was sparingly used by the club's U21 coaches in the new season.
Having missed three of the opening four matches played in the Premier League 2, he was recalled to the starting lineup in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Saturday, lasting 68 minutes on the pitch before he was replaced.
His last squad involvement for the first team was on the final day of the 2021-2022 season at Crystal Palace.
