South African club mulling over move for Nigeria GK but nothing concrete for now
Published: September 10, 2022South African DStv Premiership club Sekhukhune United are mulling over a move for Daniel Akpeyi.
The Nigeria goalkeeper is currently unemployed after ending his three-year association with Kaizer Chiefs in the summer.
Allnigeriasoccer.com can report with certainty that Sekhukhune United have held partial talks with Akpeyi and his camp about joining the club but nothing is concrete right now amid speculation at home and abroad that he has signed a one-year deal with the Kempton Park outfit with option to renew.
Although Akpeyi is open to a move to Sekhukhune United, the experienced glovesman has not yet discussed the length of contract and wages with the club, let alone appending his signature to a contract.
The 2016 Olympics bronze medalist is training on his own ahead of a potential move to a new team.
Akpeyi has tons of experience at the highest level in South Africa, having made 149 appearances combined for Chippa United and Kaizer Chiefs, posting 52 clean sheets while conceding 142 goals.
Nigerian striker Chibuike Ohizu made a splash in the DStv Premiership in 2021-2022, netting eight goals to finish as Sekhukhune United's top scorer in the division.
