Ex-West Brom defender condemns foreign coaches' approach to Nigeria National Team jobs
Published: September 10, 2022Former West Brom defender Ifeanyi Udeze has expressed his dismay at the idea of Nigeria's national team coaches living abroad and only coming back to Nigeria when an international games or tournament approaches.
A number of Super Eagles coaches have lived abroad and only report to duties when they have games to execute.
This has also been the situation with the women's team, the Super Falcons and Udeze condemned it on its strongest terms.
Speaking on Brila FM, Udeze said : "Nigeria national coaches living abroad and only coming home for their matches is wrong and it must stop.
"As for the Super Falcons, so long Randy Waldrum does two jobs and in fact considers the Super Falcons job as his 'side hustle' he's not the ideal coach for the Nigeria women's national team."
The retired Nigeria international added : "In fact it is the Super Falcons job that should be his number one and only job. A lot of things have been taken for granted in Nigeria and that is why these coaches behave the way they do.
"We need a coach who will take the Falcons as his main and only job."
The Super Eagles will take on The Fennec Foxes of Algeria in an international friendly on September 27 while they will face Portugal on November 17, three days before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Interestingly Eagles boss Jose Peseiro has been at some of the Nigeria Professional Football League matches as well as monitoring the Super Eagles Team B double headers against Ghana's Galaxies in the 2023 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers which the team failed to pick a ticket from the West African zone to the tournament.
