Nigeria squad announcement : Eight things to note on Super Eagles 25-man roster for friendly
Published: September 17, 2022The Nigeria Football Federation have announced the Super Eagles squad list for the upcoming international friendly against Algeria scheduled to take place at Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran on September 27.
Three goalkeepers, eight defenders, four midfielders and ten strikers have been summoned for the friendly by manager Jose Peseiro.

1) As at Saturday, September 17, 2022, the roster holds an average age of 25.24 years.
2) Seven players are aged 23 or younger. They are Francis Uzoho, Maduka Okoye, Adebayo Adeleye, Calvin Bassey, Raphael Onyedika, Samuel Chukwueze, and Terem Moffi.
3) Ten players have played at least one game in the Premier League. They are Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Leon Balogun, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Ahmed Musa, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ademola Lookman and Taiwo Awoniyi.
4) The roster features players who ply their trade in twelve different countries : England (8), Italy (3), Germany (2), Spain (2), France (2), Turkey (2), Cyprus (1), Belgium (1), Croatia (1), Israel (1), Portugal (1), Netherlands (1).
5) Seven players have participated in the group stage of European club competitions in the new season. Uzoho and Simon played in the Europa League; Bassey, Sanusi and Onyedika were in action in the Champions League; Musa, and Chukwueze featured in the Europa Conference League.
6) Seven players have returned to the squad after they were left out of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome : Okoye, Akpoguma, Ndidi, Iheanacho, Onyekuru, Awoniyi and Ejuke. Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika gets a maiden invite.
7) Sixteen players named in the matchday squad the last time Nigeria faced Algeria in October 2020 have been called up : Okoye, Balogun, Ekong, Sanusi, Onyeka, Chukwueze, Iwobi, Awaziem, Omeruo, Akpoguma, Aina, Ejuke, Simon, Musa, Dessers and Iheanacho.
8) The 22 outfield players invited are aiming to score their first international goal against the Algerian national team.
