Premier League Int'l Cup : Patrick Vieira in attendance as two Nigerians score for Eagles in 7-3 win over PSG
Published: September 29, 2022Two strikers of Nigerian descent were on target for Crystal Palace as they demolished Paris Saint-Germain 7-3 in a Premier League International Cup clash staged at Champion Hill Stadium in London on Wednesday night.
Eagles U21 coach Paddy McCarthy handed starts to four Super Eagles-eligible players in the shape of Tayo Adaramola, David Ozoh, David Omilabu and Victor Akinwale, while Ademola Ola-Adebomi entered the fray in the 67th minute and goalkeeper Owen Goodman was a non-playing substitute.
Crystal Palace first team boss Patrick Vieira attended the game in the company of Yohan Cabaye, who is now the sporting coordinator of the youth academy of Paris Saint-Germain.
Vieira included Adaramola, Ozoh, Ola-Adebomi and Akinwale in a 26-man squad for the club's preseason tour to Singapore and Australia.
Queysell Tchicamboud opened the scoring for PSG in the third minute but Palace restored parity through John-Kymani Gordon in the 15th minute.
Five minutes later, Akinwale put the Eagles ahead before strikes from Gordon and Akinwale ensured the home team entered the break with a three-goal cushion.
The game was more even in the second half as Maliq Cadogan, Gordon and Mooney found the net for Palace, while Christ Mukelenge and Tchicamboud reduced the arrears for PSG.
Crystal Palace's development squad are unbeaten in the new season, winning seven games and drawing twice ahead of their Premier League 2 meeting with West Ham United on October 1.
