UEL : Omonia coach hints at Super Eagles goalkeeper not starting against Manchester United
Published: October 06, 2022Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Omonia Nicosia's British manager Neil Lennon hinted at starting experienced Brazilian goalkeeper Fabiano over Francis Uzoho in their Europa League clash against Manchester United on Thursday evening.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper has played second fiddle to Fabiano since the start of the season, making only one start from a possible ten in all competitions.
Uzoho's only appearance in this season's Europa League came on matchday one when he replaced the injured Fabiano at halftime.
The Nigerian was among the three goalkeepers that participated in Omonia's final workout on Wednesday, putting him in contention to be named in the matchday squad against the Red Devils.
Lennon suggested that Fabiano will continue in goal against Manchester United after revealing that the Brazilian has to put up his best performance against Cristiano Ronaldo and co.
The former Manchester City midfielder told reporters : "To score more goals than Manchester United, to play very well, all the players to perform at their best. Fabiano to perform to the maximum because he will be threatened enough.
"To have energy, full concentration and to run enough even without the ball. "
Uzoho did not face Ronaldo during his time in Spain with Deportivo de La Coruña, for whom he made two appearances in La Liga.
