Super Eagles-eligible midfielder makes debut for Chelsea in 3-0 win v Wolves
Published: October 08, 2022Nigeria-eligible midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka on made his senior debut for Chelsea in their 3-0 rout of Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
Chukwuemeka was named to Chelsea bench and came on in place of young England midfielder Connor Gallagher in the 86th minute.
The England U20 international made his move from Aston Villa under the reins of Thomas Tuchel during the summer transfer window.
Chukwuemeka was also on the bench when the Blues faced Southampton and Leeds United in the Premier League, also against Dinamo Zagreb and Salzburg in the Champions League.
Germany international Kai Havertz headed home a beautifully cross from Mason Mount before the first half break.
Christian Pulisic doubled the lead in the 54th minute from a great counter attacking move with Mount again the provider.
Wolves who were without Portugal winger Pedro Neto whose knee injury has ruled him out of the November 17 international friendly against Nigeria and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar fielded former Chelsea striker Diego Costa.
However the Brazil-born Spanish star could not conjure any moments of magic and was replaced in the 57th minute.
Wolves' Hee Chan intended half volley was weak to trouble the Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga with less than 20 minutes left on the clock.
Albanian international Armando Broja made it 3-0 when he latched into a through pass from Matteo Kovacic in the 90th minute to direct the ball to the bottom right corner.
The goal was the first of his senior career at Chelsea.
