Awaziem closing in on Hajduk Split record held by Croatia legend Slaven Bilic
Published: October 10, 2022Super Eagles star Chidozie Awaziem is closing in on a record held by legendary Croatia central defender Slaven Bilic, who now coaches several Nigerian players at Watford.
According to Croatia daily sports newspaper based in Zagreb, Sportske novosti, Awaziem is one goal away from equaling Bilic as the topscoring defender for Hajduk Split in a single season.
Since Croatia became independent, in the past thirty years, only Bilić scored four goals in one season in the league alone for the Whites from the position of defender, and that was back in the 1992-1993 season.
Awaziem has scored an impressive three goals in eight appearances in the Croatian SuperSport HNL, against NK Lokomotiva, HNK Rijeka and NK Varazdin, while providing one assist on matchday seven at NK Osijek.
The Boavista loanee has twenty five games left to break the record held by Bilic which has stood for twenty nine years.
Awaziem originally started his career at grassroots club Junior Elkanemi as a central midfielder with an eye for goal before he was converted into a center back at Porto.
