Kwara United GK opens up on invitation to Super Eagles for summer games in USA
Published: October 10, 2022Adewale Adeyinka has revealed that he never expected to receive a Super Eagles call up in May 2022.
The Kwara United shot stopper disclosed that he expected an invitation to the Super Eagles camp when he had the highest number of clean sheets in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Adeyinka had sixteen clean sheets in twenty seven matches during the 2020/2021 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League.
"When I was expecting the call up I didn't get it, that was when I won the best goalkeeper in the Nigeria league. I didn't give up, I kept pushing," Adeyinka told reporters.
"The list came out and I saw my name. It was even my roommate who told me.
"I was like wow, thank God. Is it the main team or home-based? And he said, no , the main team."
The former Akwa United goalkeeper was named in Super Eagles' 30-man squad list for the friendly games against Mexico and Ecuador in the United States of America.
Speaking on his chances of getting back into the main Super Eagles squad, the 25-year-old expressed his optimism saying since he's still active, he stands a chance of making a return.
"Since I've not retired and I'm still working hard, I still believe I can still make it back to the main team".
The KFA graduate was in goal for the Salisu Yusuf led home-based team that failed to make it to the 2023 CHAN.
Adeyinka has appeared in three games for Kwara United this season, keeping one clean sheet.
